The UK's Luton Airport-based Hamlin Jet has taken delivery of a new Citation CJ2 that it will manage for a property company. The jet has a standard interior with six seats, a small bar area for keeping hot and cold drinks, and a lavatory at the back. Michael Hamlin, Hamlin Jet chairman, says: "It has a built-in satellite phone. That's a wonderful addition. It's not a case of it being used a lot, but, when it is used, it's incredibly useful. Sometimes a one sentence message can save an awful lot of aggravation. "It cost #13,000 to have fully built in to the aircraft, and there is a #20 monthly charge. It's really good value when you're talking about a #6 million aeroplane." The CJ2 is flying five days a week with the majority of flights to Scandinavia and Spain. Hamlin, explains: "The owner of the company wanted to buy the jet because he had travelled occasionally by private jet and knew what the benefits were." Initially, his directors were uncertain about the purchase. They were unsure if it would prove more of a luxury than a necessity. But, after two months of use, they appreciate the advantages of private air travel. The CJ2 is used solely for business flights. It allows the owners to travel to board meetings in Europe and be back in the UK the same day. Previously, it would have been a three-day round trip. The owners are now considering upgrading to a larger aircraft and expanding the company beause of the increased efficiency.
