Jet Aviation wins gold for VIP interior design
The dark woods, contrasting upholstery and hand-crafted sunburst marquetry won first place in the design/VIP completion category. The interior demonstrates capabilities in bringing a complex and detailed design to life.
The sunburst marquetry features over 180 rays composed of four different veneers, separated with brass inlays of 3mm, each individually placed and manipulated by hand.

The Jet Aviation design studio has been awarded first place in the Interior Design/VIP Completion category of the 2023 Design et Al Yacht & Aviation Awards. The company won for its design of an ACJ319neo interior redelivered in March this year.

The studio worked closely with the customer and customer's interior architect, Colin Radcliffe, on a contemporary Art Deco design for the narrow-body aircraft. The brief was for a space suitable for both relaxation and work, with a large main cabin with dining and lounge areas, a separate office that can be fully enclosed and an aft master suite with full bathroom.

Throughout the cabin a monochrome palette executed in dark woods and tiling contrasts with beige and gold upholstery and finishes. The design is complemented by complex details entirely hand-crafted on site at Jet Aviation's facility in Basel, such as the statement sunburst marquetry in the bulkhead. This intricate piece features over 180 rays composed of four different veneers, two light and two dark, separated with brass inlays of 3mm. Each piece was individually placed and manipulated by hand to ensure a seamless finish.

“Congratulations to the entire Jet Aviation completions team,” says vice president completions Christoph Fondalinski. “This achievement was a result of the seamless collaboration between our design, engineering, production and installation teams, and all of those who support them behind the scenes. I am incredibly proud of this interior, which demonstrated our capabilities in bringing a complex and detailed design to life with beautiful hand-craftsmanship and exquisite attention to detail at every stage.”

The Yacht & Aviation Awards are an annual design competition held by Design et Al. The awards are decided by votes from the industry, readers of Design et Al, and the public and were presented at a ceremony in Venice, Italy on 9 June.

“It is a fantastic achievement to see our work recognised by our industry peers and partners,” says senior director of the Jet Aviation design studio Grischa Schmidt. “The Awards are always an important industry event, and I would like to thank everyone who voted for us, and everyone in the team who made it possible for us to be shortlisted. I would also like to thank the customer and their interior architect, who put their trust in us to turn their idea into reality in this beautifully conceived interior.”
