Baldwin is honoured for lifetime of aviation safety
Don Baldwin is a lifelong safety advocate with over 30 years experience in supporting business aviation flight operations. He has more than 9,000 hours of accident and incident free flying.

Industry veteran and former association board chair Don Baldwin will receive the NBAA's 2021 John P. “Jack” Doswell Award during the 2021 Business and Aviation Convention & Exhibition, and it will be presented during the National Safety Forum.

Baldwin is a lifelong safety advocate with over 30 years experience in supporting business aviation flight operations, introducing groundbreaking standards and best practices. He is president and co-founder of Baldwin Safety & Compliance, which he founded in 2004 to provide safety management and support programmes to all sizes of flight departments and transportation organisations.

He began his career at Texaco in 1974 as a copilot and retired from the company as manager of aviation transport services. He then joined The Coca-Cola Co. as director of corporate aviation. In both roles, he led teams that developed policies, standard operating procedures and organisational redesigns.

While at Texaco the company received one of the first NBAA 50-Year Safe Flying awards and Baldwin personally received the Top Gun award for his approach to business aviation safety.

Baldwin served on many industry boards and committees including the NetJets advisory board, FAA FOARQ committee, Signature Flight Support advisory board and Embraer advisory board.

Business & Commercial Aviation magazine recognised Baldwin with its Visionary Award for his participation on the FAA Fractional Ownership Aviation Rulemaking Committee that shaped the safety of Part 91 Subpart(K) operations. He also earned numerous awards, having flown more than 9,000 hours of accident and incident free flying.

Baldwin is a graduate of Wilmington College and the Darden School at the University of Virginia. He was awarded certification in aviation safety and security through the University of Southern California-Viterbi School of Engineering programme in 2010.

“NBAA is pleased to honour Don Baldwin with the Doswell Award for the pivotal role he has played in business aviation safety,” says NBAA president and CEO Ed Bolen.

Established in 1987, the Doswell Award is granted for lifelong individual achievement on behalf of and in support of the aims, goals and objectives of business aviation. It is named in honour of Jack P. “Jack” Doswell, who inspired a high standard of involvement in the business aviation community.
