Today the McKinney National Airport broke ground on a new 40,000-square-foot hangar, by far the largest hangar at the airport, as part of a public-private partnership with Western LLC.

Once built, the hangar will store up to four Gulfstream G-550 aircraft, have four office spaces ready for tenant finish out, eight fully-enclosed garage spaces for car storage, a lounge, locker room, changing rooms, restrooms and Wi-Fi.

In addition to the hangar, the $16 million construction project will also include a new state-of-the-art fixed-base operator (FBO) terminal. Construction on the FBO is expected to begin this spring and will take approximately 12-18 months.

“Operations continue to increase year-over-year at the airport and this opportunity to enter into a public-private partnership with Western LLC allows the city to capitalize on their expertise and reputation as a well-respected developer in the aviation industry while helping us meet the demands of new businesses pouring into Collin County and the larger Dallas area,” said Mayor George Fuller.

“The airport and FBO in McKinney have been receiving national recognition for many years and we are thrilled to be part of their development as they move to bring their facilities on par with their reputation for world-class service,” said Brad Henderson, president and managing member of Western LLC.

In February, the City of McKinney and the McKinney National Airport announced the purchase of approximately 190 acres of land near the southeast side of the airport. According to the airport's master plan, the long-term growth strategy for the airport is to acquire additional land surrounding the facility, allowing the airport to expand as aircraft operations increase and the need for expanded infrastructure and facilities grows.
