SterlingRisk Insurance names Michael O’Donnell president of aviation practice group

Michael O’Donnell has been named president of the Aviation Practice Group at SterlingRisk Insurance, one of the nation’s top independently owned insurance brokerage firms. O’Donnell, who joined SterlingRisk in 2011, most recently served as executive vice president, Aviation Practice Group. His appointment to president was announced by SterlingRisk CEO David Sterling.

“Mike is a recognized expert in aviation insurance, having practiced in the aviation insurance industry since 2002,” observed Sterling. “He has been integral to the creation and growth of our Aviation Practice Group since its inception, offering clients coverage solutions that address a range of aviation-related issues. As President, he will be responsible for all aspects of the operation and development of the aviation specialty practice as we continue to expand our aviation specialty line. Everyone at SterlingRisk joins me in congratulating Mike and thanking him for the continued success of the Aviation Practice Group.”

Among his many accomplishments at SterlingRisk, O’Donnell directs day-to-day client management and internal operations, with responsibilities including design, implementation and ongoing management of custom insurance and risk management programs for Aviation Practice Group clients; direct coordination between clients and underwriting companies in complex claims to obtain client satisfactory resolutions; and working with aviation underwriting companies to formulate industry-leading policy enhancements that reduce exposure and lower costs.

Prior to joining SterlingRisk, O’Donnell served as vice president for Aviation Insurance Services of Florida; branch manager for NationAir Insurance Agencies, overseeing both the Los Angles and Atlanta offices; and vice president for Marsh within the aviation practice group. A graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Factors Psychology with an additional concentration in Aviation Business Management.

Headquartered in Destin, Florida, the SterlingRisk Aviation Practice Group provides a full suite of insurance and risk management programs to owners, operators, and managers of aviation-related properties and businesses, including commercial fixed and rotor-wing operators, corporate aircraft, instruction and rental fleets, fixed base operators, manufacturers and distributors of aviation-related products, and maintenance repair and overhaul facilities.

Carl Shephard, the former president of the Aviation Practice, will continue to serve the group in a consulting role.
