AsBAA, Asia's non-profit representative trade body for business and general aviation today hosted a ceremony in which it presented Orbis, Flying Eye Hospital with a cheque for USD54,000. The funds were raised by AsBAA's members from China, Hong Kong and southeast Asia at the association's annual industry awards show, the Icons of Aviation, Asia.

Chairman, Charlie Malarski said, “We feel that AsBAA has a responsibility to encourage and celebrate acts of corporate social responsibility in business and general aviation. ABACE is the perfect platform to celebrate the amazing generosity of AsBAA members from across the region supporting such a wonderful cause as Orbis, Flying Eye Hospital. We now plan to make the presentation ceremony an annual event at ABACE as a reminder of the great things our industry can achieve and in support of the outstanding work done in the region by Orbis.”

Mary Lau, Orbis director of development, China and Hong Kong said, “Orbis is honored to be AsBAA's charity of choice and our partnership has lasted more than two years. Today, we continue our journey of saving sight worldwide here on ABACE. With your kind-hearted support, blind people can finally escape from the dark and experience the warmth from seeing again. We look forward to a fruitful relationship with AsBAA to transforming needlessly blind lives. We're very much looking forward to seeing everyone again at the Icons of Aviation 2017 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Hong Kong”.

The Icons of Aviation Awards celebrates achievement across 12 key categories of business aviation, with a special lifetime achievement award, the Mike Davis Award. The first awards were held in 2015, in 2016 the awards were renamed, the Icons of Aviation.
