Esterline CMC Electronics announces supplemental type certificate for CMA-6800 display solution to replace legacy CRT displays

Esterline CMC Electronics (CMC) is supporting DAC International, an approved worldwide distributor for Esterline CMC's CMA-6800 LCD display, to develop a Part 25 Approved Model List (AML) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) supplemental type certificate (STC) to allow for a CMA-6800 LCD display upgrade on the Cessna Citation III/V/VII, Hawker 800 and Dassault Falcon 900. Initial ground and flight testing have been completed and FAA STC is planned for early 2016.

The CMA-6800 display has recently received Canadian Technical Standard Order (CAN-TSO) design approvalas well as Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) design approval by virtue of the bilateral agreement signed in September 2015 between the FAA and Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA).

The CMA-6800 is a form, fit and functional replacement for Honeywell ED-800 cathode ray tube (CRT) displays. CMC's LCD display offers significant improvements in reliability, and upgrades are possible with minimum disruption to aircraft operations. The CMA-6800 is the optimal, cost-effective alternative to replace old CRTs.

“CMC's goal is to help customers solve their aging CRT problems,” said Patrick Champagne, vice president products, display solutions, Esterline CMC Electronics. “With the acquisition earlier this year of the Defense, Aerospace and Training display business (DAT) by Esterline from Barco N.V. and our objective to maintain our position as the number one independent supplier of high-quality avionics displays with investments in innovative new products, the CMA-6800 solution provides operators with a more reliable display at a reduced cost, that extends the life of their existing cockpits.”

“This new product has many benefits,” said Cisco Hernandez, vice president and general manager of DAC International, a distributor of the CMA-6800. “Among them are its form-fit-function replacement and its additional I/O and processor growth provisions for future mandates.” DAC International is working on additional STCs, including the S76 platform.
